A unique probiotic formula containing four proven strains of the predominant vaginal Lactobacilli, Jarro-Dophilus® Women’s patented combination of probiotic microorganisms has been clinically tested for efficacy in maintaining protective vaginal flora and promoting urinary tract health.* Healthy vaginal flora provides important support for full-term pregnancy.* Jarro-Dophilus® Women’s potency is based on clinical studies of 5 to 10 Billion per capsule.
The composition of the vaginal microbiota is indicative of vaginal health. A healthy vaginal microbiota is characterized by a preponderance of Lactobacilli. The lactic acid produced by Lactobacilli promotes an acidic vaginal environment, a key factor in preventing vaginal microflora disruptions. In cases where Lactobacilli are found in lower numbers or absent, there is an increased opportunities for women to experience discomfort or even more severe symptoms.
Multiple high-quality clinical studies have demonstrated that the strains in the Astarte blend are an effective choice for vaginal health.
They have been observed in clinical studies to:
✓
Increase the presence of beneficial Lactobacilli*
✓
Decrease the presence of undesirable bacteria*
✓
Significantly improve vaginal symptoms*
✓
Reduce the % of complications with less optimal health status in pregnant women (25-50%)*
✓
Improve the normal microbiota in postmenopausal women with certain health conditions*
Specific probiotic strains have been shown to influence the vaginal microbiota, even when taken orally. Bacterial migration from the colon to the vagina occurs naturally, and the Astarte strains have been seen to colonize the vagina after oral intake.
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, oral supplementation with L. crispatus LbV 88, L. jensenii LbV 116, L. gasseri LbV 150N, and L. rhamnosus LbV 96 significantly improved symptom reduction due to disrupted vaginal microflora balance*.
After a 4-week intervention period, all of the women supplemented with the vaginal probiotics had optimal vaginal microflora, while 35% of women given only yogurt had significant vaginal discomfort.
Strain designation is important for identifying the specific probiotic in a product, the benefits of the probiotic, and what the count should be. A strain identifier is a unique letter and number code that follows the genus (Lactobacillus) and species (crispatus). Typically, looking up a strain in Pubmed.gov or a general search engine will bring up all the studies associated with it.
Avoid probiotics that are not strain identified; you cannot be assured of their effectiveness. Think of it this way, asking for Lactobacillus rhamnosus is asking for a health professional (doctor, nurse, nutritionist, etc.), while Lactobacillus rhamnosus LbV 96 is asking for a gynecologist.
